The Hod will need to have access to "hard materials" for constructing tools. However, we can't just say that they have access to everything in the beginning; so here's a system for assigning minerals for the different locations. You need: a 20-sided dice, and a 4-sided dice. Thankfully, there are dice-rolling programs like this one, so you don't necessarily need a physical dice for this. The d20 is rolled to determine what categories of mineral can be found in the area: - 1 = No "hard" minerals
- 2-15 = Basic mineral
- 16-19 = Uncommon mineral
- 20 = Rare mineral
Initially, the d20 is only rolled twice. This is because the Hod have no way of digging deep into the ground at the beginning of the game, and don't have tools to detect the presence of minerals. Having 2 types of minerals helps ensure that they find something of use. Once the category for the mineral is found, the d4 is rolled to determine the specific type: - Soft Mineral = No need to roll, determined by the biome (example = the lujoc flood forest has lots of clay)
- Basic = Granite, Sandstone, Flint, Quartz
- Uncommon = Coal, Copper, Iron, Aluminum
- Rare = Gold, Jewels (specific type can be announced by Fooshoo), Lodestone, Titanium[]
Naturally, these types of minerals can be up for debate.

why are soft minerals so rare in this idea? It seems to me that soft minerals as opposed to anything else would be much more than uncommon minerals. you would have to get the twenty-sided equivalent of "snake-eyes" to not have any useful mineral in an environment.

It is very difficult to get "Snake-Eyes" with a d20: think of rolling the 1 as a "critical failure", something that doesn't happen often. It's all about probability: getting 2 rolls should allow at least one usable mineral in this Starting Age.

I just feel it gives abundant rolls for places I don't expect to be abundant in much. 1 to 3 or 2 seems to make more sense in the idea that there is a small chance you get nothing in a roll. Also what would happen if there is two rolls resulting in the same material twice.
